New Novelist Novel Writing Software: Part One

Hi all, my name’s Kelly. I wanted to tell you a bit about myself before I launch into a description of the novel writing software I got. I’m mainly a web designer, but I’ve been writing for years. My fantasy job would involve me writing full-time…and if I ever saw my book in a bookstore window, then I’d pretty much die from happiness. Anyway, a while ago, I bit the bullet and bought some novel writing software. I bought New Novelist, since it seemed to be the most user friendly, and had the most information available. I always like to have as much information as possible before I buy something, so I thought some of you might like a look inside the software. Whether or not it’s for you, I don’t know. At least you’ll have some idea of what this novel writing software has to offer. For me, it’s perfect, since I (aspire to) write popular fiction. I’m currently on Chapter Four of my novel, and it’s humming right along. Anyway, here we go:

New Novelist Novel Writing Software: Step One…Starting Your Novel

The first screen of this novel writing software prompts you to start a new novel.

Then the fun begins. The ‘wizard’ walks you through the steps you need to get going. “It helps you establish the basic structure of your story before you start writing.” You have four steps to get the preliminaries out of the way: choose a name for your novel, decide the story concept, select the story category and then the story type.
Choosing a name is pretty self-explanatory. You can always change it later.

The story concept is next up in New Novelist. The software describes it as, “a short, one-line sentence describing the story you want to tell. Think of it as the headline that would be used in a newspaper if your novel was the lead article.” So far so good.
